The long reign of Queen Elizabeth II came to an end in 2022 with her passing at the age of 96. Her iconic image on sovereign coins from Great Britain, Canada, Australia and other former colonies will eventually be replaced by a portrait of King Charles III. This transition is beginning with the British Britannia coins minted in 2023.
The British Royal Mint has been operating nearly continuously for 1,100 years - producing beautiful silver coins for England and, later, Great Britain. Britannia 1 troy oz of silver coins (Britannia coin) are among the more recent issues. The Royal Mint began production in 1997, following the success of the gold Britannia coins launched 10 years earlier. This classic British silver coin design is recognized and respected across the world as a symbol of beauty, reliability and strength. Little wonder then that the silver Britannia coins, with such a depth of history behind it, have been a popular choice for investors purchasing silver bullion coins ever since its introduction.
These British silver coins are well crafted and offer the trust and assurance that comes with coinage by one of the world's oldest and best recognized mints. Every silver coin is backed by the government of the United Kingdom for weight and purity. These coins can be held in your IRA. They are priced competitively with other silver bullion coins. So if you compare it to the most popular coin among US Mint coins, American Eagle Silver coins, you will see how well priced they are and why you should consider adding them to your holdings.
Since 2013, each silver Britannia bullion is minted from .999 fine silver. Earlier silver coins were .958 fineness. The coin's obverse carries a likeness of Queen Elizabeth the Second. The reverse features the standing Britannia - the female personification of the British Isles used since Roman times more than 2000 years ago. The coins are denominated as £2 (2 British pounds).

Picked up several ounces of this coin. Loved the Queen but historically speaking it’s fun to see a King of England back on the British Sterling.

I was pleased to receive the first issued coin of King Charles. It is a very nice addition to my collection. It compares well with the American Silver Eagle.
