The Libertad statue commemorates Mexico's iconic Libertad coin, and it is third in the Coins of the World series from Rearden Metals.
The fight for "Libertad" (Liberty)
The Catholic Priest, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, launched the Mexican War Of Independence on September 16th, 1810 when. Today Hidalgo is known as ‘The Father Of Mexico’. He successfully called upon the town of Delores to rise up against the tyranny of Spanish Governor. Sadly, he lost his life before Mexico's ultimate victory in it's war for independence. Nearly a century later, the Monumento a la Indepencia was built to commemorate Hidalgo's revolution and Mexico's liberation from Spain.
Mexico crowned the "Monumento a la Indepencia" (The Monument to Independence) with a stunning 22 foot statue named El Angel, inspired by The Greek Goddess Nike - known in Greek mythology as the Goddess Of Victory.
The Libertad statue in beautiful sterling silver is a miniature version of this monument celebrating victory over tyranny.
