MS61 Graded $10 Liberty U.S. Gold Coin (PCGS / NGC) - Random Dates

The MS61 Graded $10 Liberty Gold Coin is an iconic piece of U.S. history, graded by either PCGS or NGC.

With its stunning design and rich heritage, it’s a treasured asset for any collector or investor. The U.S. Mint gold coins are carefully graded MS61, representing a standard of quality and beauty.

They are commonly referred to as Eagles (or an Eagle when singular), Liberty Head, or a Liberty Head Eagle - not to be confused with a Double Eagle.

Although this gold coin has a legal tender face value of $10 USD denomination, its pure gold metal content makes it worth far more than merely $10.

Design Description

Obverse Side

Design: The obverse side of the coin features a detailed portrait of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a coronet inscribed with the word "LIBERTY," with her hair pulled back into an elegant bun and curls cascading down her neck. Thirteen stars encircle the image, representing the original thirteen colonies of the United States, with the year of minting displayed below.

Reverse Side

  • Variety 1 (No Motto):

    • Design: The reverse side of the coin shows an eagle with outstretched wings, holding an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other, symbolizing peace and strength. The eagle's chest features a shield with vertical and horizontal lines. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arc around the top, with the denomination "TEN D." inscribed at the bottom. This variety does not have the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST."
  • Variety 2 (With Motto):

    • Design: The reverse side features a similar eagle with outstretched wings, shield, olive branch, and arrows, but with the added banner above the eagle's head bearing the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST." The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" are inscribed around the top, with "TEN D." at the bottom.

These reverse designs reflect the variations introduced between 1838 and 1907, emphasizing the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," which was added in 1866.
