The 1-oz. gold Perth Mint bars are always perfect, of course. The price is agreed to and settled over the phone when I place my order: an email confirming it arrives within an hour; and the digital, electronic "ACH" withdrawal for the purchase is posted to my bank account the next business day. My trusted USPS Letter Carrier leaves a slip in my mailbox when he attempts delivery and needs my signature for it when I'm not home; so I can sign for and pick up the shipment the day after that at the Post Office, as I did this afternoon. Out of curiosity, I took one of my Perth Mint 1-oz. bars, and one of my 1-oz. Gold Eagles, to a local shop with the usual sign saying "We Buy Gold, Silver, Diamonds, and Estate Jewelry," and asked him which would be more liquid and easier to sell, when I need to?" He glanced at the bars and the coins, instantly recognized them, and then looked up at me, smiling, and said, "No difference. Gold is trading at $1,900 today" (which, of course, I already knew), "so I'd pay the same for either of them." An honest man. One can certainly lose money in precious metals; they're not guaranteed safe--ask anyone who paid $50 for silver at the height of the 1978 "Silver Market Corner" and the metal's subsequent crash. But compared to the risk of our Dollar's forced "conversion" to a new "CBDC," precious metals seem a lot safer than my bank account or dollar-denominated money-market funds.
