America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Olympic National Park Coin: A Stunning Tribute to American Heritage

The America the Beautiful 5 Ounce .999 Olympic National Park Coin is a part of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin series, which commemorates national parks and other national sites across the United States and its territories. Each United States Mint coin in the series features a unique design representative of a particular site.

The 2011 Olympic National Park coin is dedicated to the iconic American landmark located in Washington, known for glistening tidepools to glacier-capped peaks, Olympic National Park protects more than 70 miles of Pacific Ocean beaches and, less than 33 miles away, the glacier-capped 7,980-foot summit of Mount Olympus that is the heart of the Olympic range. The park consists of coastline, rugged peaks, meadows and lakes, scattered forests and steep forested slopes ending in broad, U-shaped valleys. Geology, climate, isolation, history and sheer size make this nearly 1 million-acre park home to relatively intact ecosystems and a priceless living laboratory for plants and myriad species of animals large and small. It was first established as a national site on February 22, 1897

Coin Highlights:

  • Weight and Purity: Each coin is struck from 5 troy ounces (5 oz t, 155.517 grams) of .999 fine silver (99.9% pure), ensuring its high purity and significant heft.

  • Diameter: 76.2 mm (3 in)

  • Thickness: 3.25 mm (0.128 in)

  • Design: The obverse (front) of the coin features the standard "America the Beautiful" design: John Flanagan’s 1932 portrait of George Washington. This design has been slightly modified from the original to fit the different coin specifications but maintains its iconic look that has adorned American quarter dollars since 1932.

  • Unique Reverse Imagery: The reverse (back) of the ATB Olympic National Park coin depicts a Roosevelt elk standing on a gravel river bar of the Hoh River with a view of Mount Olympus in the background. Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of Olympic National Park.

  • Legal Tender: While primarily purchased for their silver content and numismatic coin collecting value, these large silver bullion coins are legal tender currency in the United States and have a face value of 25 cents ($0.25 USD, twenty-five cents, quarter dollar). Although they have a face value, they are not meant for circulation and remain uncirculated with a brilliant uncirculated (BU) finish.

  • Limited Mintage: Like other coins in the U.S. Mint series, the Great Smoky Mountains coin is often produced in limited quantities, making it a sought-after item for collectors and investors alike. The 2011 Olympic National Park Washington silver bullion coin had 104,900 minted. These were minted at the Philadelphia Mint and Denver Mint.

  • Educational Value: Beyond its financial worth, the coin serves as a piece of educational material, highlighting the importance of Olympic National Park and the figures it commemorates, while also encouraging interest in the natural and historical preservation of American landmarks.

  • Packaging and Presentation: These coins are typically offered in protective plastic capsules, ensuring they remain in pristine condition. Some may come in original mint boxes with a certificate of authenticity, especially if purchased directly from the United States Mint or authorized dealers.

Collectors and investors appreciate the US Mint America the Beautiful 5 Ounce .999 Silver Olympic National Park Coin for its beauty, historical significance, and investment value. The combination of its fine silver content, artistic designs, and educational importance makes it a standout addition to any collection.
