America The Beautiful Silver 5 Oz Coin - Shenandoah National Park
The Shawnee quarter is the first of 2014 and the 22nd overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The park is located just 75 miles from the Washington, D.C.. The park runs along one of the most scenic sections of the Blue Ridge mountains. Visitors will find spectacular waterfalls, scenic vistas, wildflowers, and the beautiful Shenandoah river. There are 200,000 acres filled with deer, songbirds, and black bear.

The reverse (tails) design features a boy standing upon a rocky overlook of the Shenandoah river below. Inscriptions are “SHENANDOAH,” “VIRGINIA,” “2014,” and, “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
The US Mint launched the America the Beautiful Quarters silver bullion coin series in 2010. Each massive coin contains 5 troy ozs of .999 fine silver, despite the small "quarter dollar" denomination. The coin series has now ended but the popularity of these remarkable coins remains.
The obverse features George Washington, as minted on US quarter dollars in 1932. The bullion coins are reverse duplicates of artwork found on the much-loved America the Beautiful quarters, commemorating national parks or national sites. The US Mint releases 5 designs every year, in the America the Beautiful coin series. Each of these five-ounce commemorative coins represents a park in one of the 50 states and Washington DC.
