Prospecting for Gold - Third Release in The Klondike Gold Rush Series From the Royal Canadian Mint

Now investors can capture the spirit of the Klondike with the beautiful, special release 1-ounce $200 (CAD) gold coin struck in .99999 fine gold. "Five Nines" coins from the Royal Canadian Mint are the purest gold coins in the world.

The Klondike Gold Rush began in 1896. Klondike prospectors dug shafts through permanently frozen gravels (permafrost) down to bedrock and then tunneled horizontally in a process known as drift mining. Miners used this method in the winter, hauling the “paydirt” up to the surface, where it lay in piles until spring. After the spring thaw, trough-like sluice boxes were filled with paydirt, and the muck and gravel were washed away by water pouring through the sluice. The much denser gold (gold is 19 times heavier than water) settled to the bottom where it was captured in the riffles built into the boxes.

This and other methods employed during the Klondike Gold Rush put Canada on the map as a leading gold producer. As a result of the gold rush, the Yukon joined Canadian Confederation in 1898.

The unique design of this stunning gold coin features The White Pass and Yukon Railway hauling passengers and supplies to the Yukon. Nearby prospectors with shovels add pay dirt to a sluice box. It will make a fine addition to any collection, and buyers can avoid the high collectibles premium! Every single coin comes attractively packaged in RCM's certified assay card holder.

Product Description

Tens of thousands of fortune seekers flooded into the Klondike region of Canada's north seeking gold. A few struck it rich, and many others failed. The allure of beautiful, and valuable gold, drove population and development to this isolated region.

The Klondike Gold Rush (1896-1899) is one of the more famous examples in North America. It was a particularly important chapter in Canada’s history. 2021 marks the 125th anniversary of the discovery that inspired gold fever in the Yukon territory. Skookum Jim Mason, his nephew Dawson Charlie, Kate Carmack, and her husband George Carmack made the famous find. Word spread and the rush was on the following summer.

The first gold nuggets were found at Rabbit (Bonanza) Creek. The ensuing boom spurred Yukon’s entry into the Confederation and Canada’s emergence as one of the world’s leading gold producers. This stunning Prospecting for Gold coin pays homage to this history.

Beautiful First Coin in my Collection!
I really appreciate the way my coin was packaged. Thanks a lot, I plan to collect all of the RCM's .99999 bullion coins. For anyone reading this, it took 14 days for my package to arrive after I paid via the ACH method. Like I previously mentioned, my coin came really well packaged (The Coin came Bubble wrapped perfectly covering the Assay Card, then it was placed inside a MME plastic Zip-up bag. That Plastic zip-up bag was placed inside a bubble wrapped envelope wich was then placed inside the Fed-Ex Envelope.) I did pay about $23 more for the premium than other sellers, but if that guarantees that my package will arrive in perfect condition and as described then I do not mind. :)
